New labor unrest has bubbled up at Disneyland Resort, where baristas at the Downtown Disney Starbucks have gone on strike.
According to a report from LAist, Starbucks employees walked off the job last night and are now on the picket line.

Due to the labor unrest, the Downtown Disney Starbucks location has temporarily closed.
Why Are Baristas Striking?
The Disneyland Resort strike is part of a larger labor dispute between Starbucks and Starbucks Workers United, a union representing employees at more than 550 of the chain’s locations.

The two sides have been negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement for more than a year. With no deal in sight, baristas authorized a strike last week, accusing Starbucks of failing to negotiate in good faith.
As the Downtown Disney Starbucks strike began, Starbucks Workers United shared a video from the picket line on social media.

“Workers have shut down one of largest Starbucks stores in the country… and we’re just getting started! Our union is taking action to demand an end to union-busting and resolution of 100s of unfair labor practices (ULPs) in our stores. Help us fight back against corporate greed and DON’T BUY STARBUCKS while workers are on their ULP strike!” they captioned the post.
Starbucks Responds
For their part, Starbucks says that it remains committed to crafting a fair deal with union employees, but Workers United has walked away from negotiations.

“Our commitment to bargaining hasn’t changed,” Starbucks executive Sara Kelly said in a statement. “Workers United walked away from the table but if they are ready to come back, we’re ready to talk.”
