WATCH: A Christmas Wish Comes True in New ‘A Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever’ Trailer
For the second straight year, Disney and Academy Award winner Taika Waititi are teaming up to create some holiday magic.
Last year, Waititi delivered the festive A Disney Holiday Short: The Boy & The Octopus, which earned rave reviews from critics and fans alike.
“We explored several amazing concepts for this year, but ‘A Disney Holiday Short: The Boy & The Octopus’ had a special kind of magic that stayed with us,” Tim Pennoyer, Director of Brand Marketing, explained last year.

“It beautifully encapsulates the joy of discovering friendship and warmth in surprising places, which felt so right for a Disney holiday story.”

“Disney stories have always been a source of togetherness, wonder, and joy, especially during the holidays,” said Disney’s Joanna Balikian, Senior Vice President, Brand Management. “With A Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever, we sought to capture that timeless spirit of friendship, family, and imagination that brings generations together and makes the holidays magical.”
Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever tells the story of a young girl and her doodle, who comes to life on Christmas Day after Santa mistakes the drawing for a holiday wish.

“What makes this story uniquely Disney is the fact that it’s set in the world of a kid. It’s a kid and her new best friend, navigating the complex world together, and doing it just with the power of friendship and imagination,” said Taika Waititi.
A Star-Studded Cast and Crew
In addition to Waititi, the short features contributions from legendary animator Eric Goldberg, Untold Studios, and Disney Legend John Goodman.

“I’ve always loved being part of Disney stories because there’s a timelessness to Disney’s storytelling – it’s fun, it’s heartfelt, and it reminds families of what really matters. This wonderful short captures that same spirit perfectly,” said John Goodman.
The short ends with a call to action for Disney’s Make Someone’s Holiday Magic campaign, which celebrates Disney’s role in fans’ holiday memories.
