‘Zootopia 2’ Is Tracking Towards the Second-Biggest Thanksgiving Debut Ever
After a largely disappointing 2025 at the box office, Disney will return to these theaters this Thanksgiving with the highly anticipated Zootopia 2.
Reuniting audiences with Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, the film will see the dynamic duo follow the “twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.”

“To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before,” the film’s synopsis explains.
‘Zootopia 2’ Is Tracking Towards a Strong Opening
With just weeks to go until Zootopia 2 hits theaters, the film is tracking towards a $125+ five-day domestic debut.

That number would give the sequel the second-best Thanksgiving opening ever, behind only 2024’s Moana 2 ($225.4 million).
According to Deadline, the film’s presales are currently in line with Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which delivered a $154.2 million three-day opening in June 2024.

The original Zootopia debuted to a $75 million opening and ended its domestic run at $341.2 million. Globally, the film earned $1 billion.
Disney Could Use a Win
As previously noted, 2025 has not been a banner year for Disney at the box office. With Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash still on the way, however, the studio has a real chance to stick the landing.

So far this year, only Lilo & Stitch has surpassed the $1 billion mark. Disney likely hopes that Zootopia 2 will follow suit.
