Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Refurbishment Has Reached a Milestone
If you have been reading along here at MickeyBlog this year, you know that we have been closely following the ongoing refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
The beloved Magic Kingdom attraction closed in January for what is expected to be a year-long refurbishment.

Initially, it was not clear what Disney had in store for the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness.
The Refurbishment Has Been Rolling Along
Since Big Thunder Mountain closed, however, we have watched as Disney meticulously refurbished the attraction’s track, rockwork, and show scenes.

Additionally, we learned that when Thunder Mountain reopens, it will feature a new Rainbow Caverns scene.
The last time we checked in, new scaffolding had been erected at the attraction’s entrance.

Now, we are back with another update!
Cosmetic Work Is Now Underway
When visiting Magic Kingdom today, we were thrilled to see that painting is now underway on the attraction’s entrance building and front-facing rockwork.

As you can see, the front structure no longer looks as rundown as it once did.

Here is another look at the building before it was painted.

The refurbished building is a brighter shade of yellow and looks much newer.

Elsewhere, we saw Imagineers painting the rocks.

Here is a closer look.

A Major Milestone
Traditionally, cosmetic work is done at the end of a construction project.

So, today’s update not only gives us a glimpse at what Imagineering has in store for Thunder Mountain, but it may also indicate that the project is wrapping up soon.
Hopefully, we will learn more soon!
