The NFL Is Coming to Monstropolis For ESPN’s ‘Monsters Funday Football’
After the massive success of Toy Story Funday Football, Simpsons Funday Football, and the NHL Big City Greens Classic, ESPN is getting ready to bring live sports to Monstropolis.
During halftime of tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Commanders, ESPN announced that Monsters Funday Football will be televised on December 8 as an alternate broadcast of the Monday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Each iteration of Funday Football has pushed the boundary of what’s possible in sports technology. By blending real-time NFL data and tracking with cutting-edge animation, we’re transforming the way fans experience an NFL game,” said Michael “Spike” Szykowny, ESPN VP, Graphics Innovation. “Our continued innovation with partners like the NFL, Beyond Sports and Disney+ showcases how technology can turn a live game into a fully immersive world, giving fans an additional way to consume sports.”

The football game will unfold on the Cheer Floor, a reimagined version of the Monsters, Inc. Scare Floor, and will see thousands of cheering monsters taking in the festivities.
Additionally, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) will be suiting up for the Philadelphia Eagles, while James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (John Goodman) will play for the Chargers.

Joining them will be Roz (Bob Peterson), who will serve as the game’s sideline reporter; Child Detection Agency employees, who will help clear penalties and challenge flags; and many other fan-favorite characters.
A Cheer Champion and ESPN Talent
In addition to playing in the football game, Mike and Sulley will compete to see whose team can fill the most Cheer Canisters. At the end of the game, a Cheer Champion will be announced.
