ESPN and Formula 1 Are Breaking Up
As ESPN has taken the plunge into streaming, the network has firmly re-established itself as the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
Over the past 18 months, Disney has reached landmark deals with the NFL, NBA, MLB, WWE, PLL Lacrosse, NCAA, and the Savannah Bananas to bring more content under the ESPN umbrella than ever before.

Soon, fans will be able to stream premiere stations such as the NFL Network, NFL RedZone, MLB.TV, and more through their ESPN app.
They will also be able to watch the biggest wrestling events of the year and stream thousands of college sports matches.
More than at any time in the network’s history, its content library is booming.

Amid this time of rapid growth for ESPN, however, one sport is leaving the network for greener pastures.
Formula 1 Is Heading To Apple TV
Last week, Formula 1 announced that it had reached a new television agreement with Apple TV and would be leaving ESPN next year.

The new deal between Formula 1 and Apple comes just months after the release of the F1 movie, which the two entities collaborated closely on.
The agreement will make Apple TV the exclusive home of F1 for the next five years. It is believed to be worth $160 million.
“We [Apple and F1] are no strangers to each other, having spent the past three years working together to create ‘F1 The Movie,’ which has already proven to be a huge hit around the world,” F1 president Stefano Domenicali said.

“We have a shared vision to bring this amazing sport to our fans in the U.S. and entice new fans through live broadcasts, engaging content, and a year-round approach to keep them hooked.”
“We Are Incredibly Proud”
For their part, ESPN was gracious in defeat. By all accounts, the seven-year partnership between F1 and the Worldwide Leader was beneficial for all involved.

“We’re incredibly proud of what we and Formula 1 accomplished together in the United States and look forward to a strong finish in this final season. We wish F1 well in the future,” the network said in a statement.
