Is Disney Getting Ready To Make Another ‘Lion King’ Movie?
When Mufasa: The Lion King stumbled out of the gate late last year, many wondered if the film would spell the end of Disney’s photorealistic Lion King franchise.
Released to theaters last December, Musfasa was trounced in its debut weekend by Sonic the Hedgehog 3, earning a disappointing $35 million in domestic theaters. Needless to say, the future of the franchise did not look bright.

Then, something unexpected happened.
Mufasa’s Roaring Comeback
After making it through the holidays, Mufasa: The Lion King came roaring back at the box office. By the time the film had concluded its theatrical run, it had grossed an impressive $723 million.

As we wrote earlier this year, the future of the Lion King franchise once again looked bright.
Is Another Film on the Way?
Now, according to a report by insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is ready to continue The Lion King story with another photorealistic film.

While details on the project remain scarce, it is possible that the film will remake The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, which, despite being released direct-to-video, has proven to be immensely popular with fans.
As we saw with Mufasa: The Lion King, however, Disney is also willing to change established lore and tell original stories.

Perhaps then, the next Lion King film will go in a brand new direction.
For now, we will have to wait and see.
