Disney Launches “Copyright Probe” After New Taiwanese Theme Park Castle Bears Striking Resembles to Shanghai Disneyland
The Walt Disney Company is taking legal action after a new theme park centered on a large pink castle opened in Taiwan.
The new park in question is known as Otherworld and opened in July. According to reports from Taiwan News, the park has been dubbed “Taiwan’s first Disney-style attraction” by local media.

The similarities between the Otherworld Castle (also known as the Olevoo Dream Castle) and the central structure at Shanghai Disneyland have led Disney to launch a “copyright infringement probe” into the Hung Meng International Corporation, which built the Shanghai structure.

Based on the reports out of Taiwan, Disney is not concerned that Otherworld has copied their theme park design. Instead, the company is investigating whether Hung Meng leaked or utilized confidential design specs to create the new castle.
Hung Meng International Responds
Hung Meng International Corporation not only previously helped build the Shanghai Disneyland Castle, but was also tasked with numerous construction projects across Hong Kong Disneyland, including the resort’s Toy Story Land.

For their part, Hung Meng denies any involvement in Otherworld and insists that the company has stuck to Disney’s strict confidentiality agreements.
In a statement, Hung Meng’s International Chairman, Jian Ting-zai, bluntly stated that his company had no involvement in the new Otherworld castle, nor does the structure have any connection to Disney.

According to the chairman, Disney may have seen media reports linking the Olevoo Dream Castle to Shanghai Disneyland and mistakenly believed that Hung Meng was involved.
The Company Was Not Involved
In response to these concerns, Jian Ting launched an investigation into the alleged intellectual property infringement and found no wrongdoing.

“Ho-Ming International did not design, produce, or participate in its construction. Nor did it receive official authorization or commission from Disney,” he said.
It looks like Disney’s concerns may have been a big misunderstanding.
