New Trademark May Reveal Name of Upcoming ‘Monsters, Inc.’ Land at Hollywood Studios
An important chapter in Hollywood Studios’ history came to an end earlier this year when Muppet*Vision 3D and the rest of Muppets Courtyard closed to facilitate the creation of a new Monsters, Inc. land.
Originally announced at last year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the new Monsters, Inc. land will transport guests to Monstropolis, where they can ride the Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster and see a show at the “Glob Theater.”

Although it has been over a year since the new Monsters, Inc. land was announced, we still have not received an official name for the area.

Now, however, we may finally have some insight.
A New Trademark Filing
Walt Disney Parks & Resorts filed a trademark last week for the name “Monstropolis.”

The new documentation cites a wide variety of uses, including “amusement park and theme park services,” “entertainment services in the nature of an amusement park show,” and “live appearances by a celebrity, musician, athlete, or costumed character.”
In addition to the trademark, it should be noted that when Disney added a new display for the Monsters, Inc. land to Walt Disney Presents, the area was referred to as Monstropolis.

So, while Disney has yet to formally announce the name of the newest land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, all signs point to Monstropolis.
What’s In a Name?
If you are a frequent Walt Disney World visitor, you know that Disney has often chosen more complicated (and SEO friendly) names for its recent lands, such as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora – The World of Avatar.

Should Disney name the new Monsters, Inc. land “Monstropolis,” it would be a refreshing return to simplistic land names devoid of franchise titles.

Hopefully, we will get an official announcement soon.
