Spooky Stuff to Stream for Halloween
October means more than MLB playoffs.
To people like my wife, it’s the best time of the year, an opportunity to celebrate their spooky side.

Yes, Halloween season has finally arrived, as the lawns in my neighborhood will attest.
I didn’t even know they made inflatable monsters that big!

Fall Decor at Magic Kingdom
Admittedly, I head straight to the Audio-Animatronics aisle at Spirit Halloween, though.
Seriously, this is a wonderful time to embrace your gothic side, and Disney+ is here to help.

Here’s a list of spooky Halloween stuff to stream this holiday season.
‘Agatha All Along’
I’ve written Halloween suggestions since before Disney+ was a thing.
Over the years, a couple of staples have remained on the list, including two I’ll mention today.

Photo: Roku
Agatha All Along may be joining them on the list of permanent Halloween season recommendations.
For those of you who watched the show, I know you agree completely, as the buzz was off the charts.

Photo: Marvel
Agatha All Along tells a new Marvel story starring the antagonist from WandaVision.
Without giving away too much, part of it proves to be a family reunion of sorts.

Photo: Empire
Agatha, a Salem witch, goes on a grand adventure when someone persuades her to walk the Witches’ Road.
There’s a song that goes along with this attempt, and it’s utterly brilliant.

Photo: Marvel
Agatha All Along is a new holiday tradition in our home and a tantalizing mystery for first-time viewers to unravel.
‘Alien: Earth’
This show’s first season just ended a few days ago, and it was intense.
Alien: Earth takes the plot from every Alien movie you’ve ever seen and then drops the trauma at your back door.

‘Alien: Earth’
This story takes place on Earth, albeit a futuristic one, where a handful of corporations rule the planet.
Wait, that’s still fictional, right? Anyway, as we witness every day in real life, these corporations fight for supremacy.

‘Alien: Earth’
When an unplanned spacecraft arrives at a corporate facility, the owner of said spacecraft wants it back.
The other corporation believes that ownership is nine-tenths of the law, but that doesn’t go great for them.

Photo: Deadline
You can guess what’s onboard the ship, and you can also accurately predict whether it’s friendly.
Actually, that’s not totally accurate as a summary for several reasons, and I’ve left out a major plot point.

Have you seen Alien vs. Predator? This is more like Alien vs. Corporations vs. Children. It’ll make sense when you watch.
Alien: Earth is spectacular, and I cannot wait for season two, which hasn’t been confirmed yet but appears likely.
‘American Horror Story’
Now that Disney+ has integrated Hulu into the app, we can expand our suggestions quite a bit.
Hulu built its content library on the power of Fox films and television series, many of which feature blood and guts.

Photo: FX
In fact, on Disney+, you can pull up the Horror Collection and gain a ton more recommendations.
One Fox program that just won’t die is American Horror Story, which is 12 seasons strong by now.

Photo: FX
I’ve only watched the first two seasons and honestly didn’t care for it. However, it’s got a diehard fanbase.
Since most seasons are completely standalone, you can pick the ghoulish tale that intrigues you.

Photo: FX
American Horror Story makes for an excellent October binge.
‘Hocus Pocus’/’Hocus Pocus 2’
Ah, the classics.
Realistically, you were going to watch this one whether I suggested it or not.

Photo: Variety
MickeyBlog just recently showed an artifact that has appeared at Carthay Circle Lounge.
Anyone who picks up that book – which isn’t possible at Carthay Circle – will most assuredly go amok! Amok! AMOK!

Also, I’ll just say it. You should go ahead and watch the second one because it’s just plain better.
I know that everyone loves Hocus Pocus, but I find the first 20-30 minutes of it absolutely painful.

Hocus Pocus 2 honors the spirit of the original, but its script is, you know, good.
‘Marvel Zombies’
We watched this last week, and the entire story arc caught me off guard.
I hadn’t expected several of the twists, and the ending utterly shocked me.

Photo: Marvel
Folks, Marvel characters die in this series. I’m talking about a LOT of them.
Don’t get too attached to any of your favorites, as even some seeming protagonists die screaming.

Photo: Marvel
Marvel Zombies consists of four episodes, which means you can binge it in the same timespan as a movie.
‘Mickey’s Spooky Stories’
Hey, maybe terror isn’t for you. If so, choose Mickey’s Spooky Stories instead!
You’ll enjoy the same vibe as an evening spent at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Photo: Disney
Plus, you don’t need to worry about any atrocities being committed, as all these stories have happy endings.
I cannot say that for several other titles on the list, including the next one…
‘Ready or Not’
Everyone dreams of their wedding, right?
That’s what the Big Marriage industrial complex wants us all to believe anyway.

Photo: Fox Searchlight
Well, Ready or Not obliterates that premise by telling the story of a wedding night gone awry.
The bride discovers that the new in-laws occasionally perform ritual sacrifices.

Photo: Fox Searchlight
So, her wedding night changes from a romantic evening to a violent quest for survival.
Ready or Not is one of my favorite films of the 2010s, and I highly recommend it.

Photo: Fox Searchlight
I’ll warn you that some of the deaths in this one may not be fun for the squeamish.
Those of you who love a bit of over-the-top satire will quickly fall in love with Ready or Not, though.
‘Scream’/’Scream 2’
For a time in the 1990s, Kevin Williamson was the most famous writer in Hollywood.
He created Dawson’s Creek and wrote the screenplay for Scream, a film that redefined horror.

Photo: Miramax
In this film, the characters behaved self-referentially, understanding that they were in a horror flick.
They quoted all the tropes from such films and then quickly died all those ways anyway.

Photo: Miramax
Unless you experienced it, you’ll never understand just how impactful Scream was to cinema.
Here’s a dirty secret, though. Scream 2 is the superior film. I even had it in my top three for 1997.

Photo: Miramax
A relatively unknown actor named Timothy Olyphant stole every scene he was in.
Also, nobody anticipated the film’s surprise reveal about the killer’s identity.

Photo: Miramax
Now that we’re nearly 30 years down the line, see if you can do better.
This motif has been ripped off repeatedly since Scream 2, but it was groundbreaking at the time.
‘The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror Collection
The current co-showrunner on The Simpsons recently gave a wide-ranging interview.
When the subject of Springfield at Universal Studios came up, he made a simple point.

Photo: Fox
He is baffled why there has never been a Treehouse of Horror House during Halloween Horror Nights.
I know that this is a Disney site, but it’s an applicable thought process for our discussion.

Treehouse of Horror
After all, we’re discussing some of the goriest, creepiest stories ever told.
Since The Simpsons crack wise throughout these episodes, we overlook all the atrocities.

Photo: Disney+
To wit, here’s a video that tracks the kill count in every Treehouse of Horror episode:
Folks, that video is more than two hours long! That’s more blood than you’d see in a Saw film.
But, unlike Saw, Treehouse of Horror episodes are all entertaining!
‘Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas’
I was watching a Super Enthused video while I was writing this, and a bit of kismet occurred.
I can’t help but wonder what Tim Burton would think about Oogie Boogie holding court on a Disney cruise ship.
Something feels off about the whole thing, yet it speaks to the tremendous popularity of this film.

Oogie Boogie Bash
In fact, you can eschew streaming and watch The Nightmare Before Christmas in theaters this month if you’d prefer.
That option has turned into an annual tradition, with fans turning out in droves to watch it again and again.

Halloween at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa
Oogie Boogie, Sally, and Jack Skellington’s popularity has transcended that of other Burton characters.
As great as the director is, these characters and this story are his masterpieces.
‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’
I cannot say too much about this hysterical and dark film without spoiling the secret.
Let’s just say that the usual batch of sexy teens hole up at a cabin in the woods.

Photo: Magnet Releasing
While there, they encounter Tucker and Dale, two locals who seem likely to be serial killers.
That is NOT how the rest of the story plays out, but I won’t ruin the surprise for you.

Photo: Magnet Releasing
Pro tip: this particular film makes for an ideal double feature with Ready or Not.
‘Werewolf by Night’
This one has also become an annual tradition as a recommendation.
Watch it once, and you’ll understand why. Also, don’t overlook the music while you watch.

Photo: Thedirect.com
Michael Giacchino, the director of this story, won an Academy Award for the music in Up.
He also won an Emmy and two Grammys as a composer, which is his main gig.

Photo: MicChat.com
Marvel is tight with Giacchino, who had an idea for a story…and it’s a brilliant one at that.
Werewolf by Night takes about the same amount of time as an episode of a reality show.

Photo: Digital Media Talkies
So, it’s a minimal time investment, but once you watch, you won’t be able to stop thinking about it.
‘World War Z’
Finally, we have an action-horror film about surviving the zombie apocalypse.
Brad Pitt portrays a soldier who quickly deduces the scope of a viral outbreak and moves to protect his family.

Photo: Paramount
What follows is a series of vignettes almost as much as a single film.
World War Z bounces from place to place, with the danger escalating every step of the way.

Photo: Paramount
This production was famously disastrous, yet the movie rivals 28 Weeks Later in terms of quality.
That’s the highest possible praise from me, and I back up those words with my actions.

Photo: Paramount
I’ve had World War Z on in the background several times already in 2025.
Now that it’s Halloween season, I’ll watch the film again in earnest…for approximately the 30th time.

Photo: Paramount
The scenes in Israel and on the airplane…they’re so claustrophobic and intense.
PS: If you want to compare, 28 Weeks Later is currently available on Disney+, too.

Photo: 20th Century Fox
Remember that you’ll need a subscription for Hulu to watch its content on Disney+, though.
Happy Halloween, everyone! If you’re anything like my wife, this is your favorite month!
