Catalina’s City of Avalon Approves Preferential Agreement With Disney Cruise Line
The Disney Cruise Line and Catalina Island’s City of Avalon have reached an agreement that will see Disney get preferential scheduling when visiting the city’s port on all Thursdays and select Saturdays.
For those who may not know, Catalina Island is located just 22 miles off the coast of Los Angeles and is a popular stop for cruises heading to Mexico.

Last March, Disney and Catalina agreed to the preliminary berthing pact. That deal has now been approved.
The Details of the Deal
As part of the new agreement, Disney gets preferential anchorage on Saturdays and Tuesdays during Catalina’s “peak season,” which runs from September 15 through May 15.

In the summer season, which takes place from May 16 through September 14, Disney gets preferential anchorage on Tuesdays.
For their part, Disney has agreed to bring a minimum of 120,000 cruise passengers to Catalina every year.

Additionally, Disney will pay a Cruise Line Fee equal to the City Wharfage Rate plus an additional Passenger Service Charge equal to twenty percent of the Wharfage Rate for each passenger. Finally, there will be an annual adjustment of 2.5% each year.

Should Disney fail to bring 120,000 passengers to the island, they will pay a remission.
The Agreement Runs Through at Least 2030.
While the new agreement will run through September 14, 2020, there are two additional five-year renewal options built into the deal.

In the end, the agreement sounds like a win for both parties.
