New Check-In Area Opens as Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Refurbishment Continues
Do you have a stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian coming up? Or perhaps you have a reservation for one of the many wonderful dining options or spa packages booked into your diary?
If so, keep reading. You may have heard that there’s quite a bit of work going on in the resort’s main lobby at the moment, and we’re here to tell you just what to expect during your visit this October.

New Check-In Areas
I remember checking in to a stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Hotel & Spa once. It was one of the most magical experiences I’ve had at Disney, and all that started right here at the reception desk!
As you can see from our photos, the beautiful check-in area has received quite the glow-up amidst the current refurbishment!
We can see the addition of brand-new desks and décor to make a warm, welcoming environment for guests, all very fitting with the elegance and splendor of the Grand Floridian’s aesthetic!
I don’t know about you, but those light fixtures really remind me of beautiful engagement rings. This whole area is ever-so traditional in feel, yet still carrying that fairytale Disney magic we’d expect from such an iconic hotel!
As well as the refreshed check-in area, we’re also seeing a swanky new bell services desk and area.
What lucky guests to be checking into the Grand Floridian today!
The Sweetest Children’s Area
Arriving at a hotel after a long day’s travel can be tiring for kiddos, which is why Disney hotel lobbies all include a cute, designated children’s area for them to kick back and relax.
Upon arriving in the newly-refurbished Grand Flo lobby today, we loved seeing the new children’s area here in the reception, which features plenty of child-sized seats and entertainment features for littles to enjoy!
These stools are ever so sweet, all perfectly lined up in front of a big television playing Mickey Mouse cartoons.
There’s even a sweet little table for activities, and not forgetting larger chairs for the grown-ups to sit, too!
We love this sweet detail, and would happily sit and enjoy Mickey and friends on TV while taking a break from check-in!
A Wallpaper Refresh
In the entranceway to the resort, we immediately spotted that this beautiful new wallpaper had been hung!
We think you’ll agree this is ever so elegant and fancy, while also feeling like the necessary modern refresh the resort has been needing!
Wondering what else is new?
Well, while these all-important desk areas are all open and completed, there are still quite a few elements in the resort’s main lobby where refurbishment efforts are continuing.
The Birdcage
Yes, it would appear that the resort’s centrepiece structure is still sitting in a walled-off area, where construction workers are busy making the magic happen!
Even behind those walls, we’re starting to see the resort’s new birdcage start to come together, and we can’t wait to see how the finished structure will bring that Victorian-inspired ambience to the room!
The dark wood really pops against the crisp white woodwork in the tall atrium.
We’re sure it won’t be long now until the temporary walls are removed, and the cozy lobby opens fully once more!
New Rug Installation
Of course, our ever-curious reporters decided to head up a floor in the Grand Floridian, to take a look behind those walls from above.
From up here on the second floor, we saw plenty of work was happening, including the all-important rug removal and reinstallation!
We’re getting a better view of the birdcage from up here, too, and it’s so good to see the work progressing so rapidly.
