PHOTOS: The Rivers of America Are Now Completely Surrounded By Construction Walls

A new chapter in Magic Kingdom history has been unfolding before our eyes this year, as the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island have closed after more than 50 years of operation.

If you have been reading along here at MickeyBlog, you know that the heat of Frontierland is being demolished in order to facilitate the creation of Piston Peak.

When completed, the new Cars-themed area will feature two new attractions, transporting guests to Piston Peak, a new area inspired by the Rocky Mountains.

Construction Has Been Underway For Months

Over the last several months, we have watched as the Rivers of America have been drained and the demolition of Tom Sawyer Island has begun.

The last time we checked in, construction equipment was visible in the riverbed.

Now, we are back with another update!

Larger Construction Walls Have Arrived

As the construction of Piston Peak enters a new phase, more walls have been erected around the former Rivers of America.

Now, guests can no longer look across the Rivers of America to Tom Sawyer Island.

Instead, the area has become a new maze of construction walls and walkways.

Here is another look.

Around the boardwalk, some small props are still visible, adding some light theming to the area.

When Will Piston Peak Open

While Disney has not announced when Piston Peak will open, all indications suggest a 2027 debut.

For the time being, guests will have to get used to the new construction in Frontierland.
