‘The Simpsons’ Are Returning to Theaters in 2027
Twenty years after The Simpsons Movie took theaters by storm, Homer and his family are getting ready for another big screen adventure!
Today, Disney announced that the long-awaited sequel to 2007’s animated classic will be released in theaters on July 23, 2027.

If that date sounds familiar, it should. Previously, an untitled Marvel project had been scheduled for that release slot. Instead, it will be The Simpsons who hit the big screen.
What We Know
While Disney has made an official announcement, details on The Simpsons 2 remain scarce at this time.

20th Century Studios released a poster on social media this afternoon that simply read “Homer’s Coming Back for Seconds.”

The last time The Simpsons hit theaters, the beloved animated family scored a major hit, earning $536 million at the box office and nabbing a Golden Globe nomination.
A Second ‘Simpsons’ Movie Has Been a Long Time Coming
Plans for a sequel to The Simpsons Movie have been reported to be in the works since 2015. In fact, when Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, Simpson’s creator, Matt Groening, said he had “no doubts” that the studio would produce a sequel.

The last update we had on the project was that a second Simpsons movie was in the works before the COVID-19 pandemic, but it stalled out.
Now, fans finally got the news they have been waiting for.
