Disney Files a New Permit For Sir Mickey’s Royal Portrait Studio
2025 has been a year of change at Magic Kingdom, with the closure of Big Thunder Mountain for refurbishment, the draining of the Rivers of America, the construction in Tomorrowland, and numerous other small projects unfolding across the park.
Just when it looked like things were starting to slow down, the Royal Portrait Studio at Sir Mickey’s closed earlier this week.

As we reported, the PhotoPass studio is currently behind a large curtain.
At the time the construction began, we noted that Disney had not announced the type of renovations taking place inside the Fantasyland shop.

A refurbishment is underway at Sir Mickey’s
Now, a new permit filed by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts may shed some light on the topic.
The New Sir Mickey’s Permit
The latest Notice of Commencement filed by Disney calls for the installation of “scenic and prop elements, and audio and lighting equipment” inside Sir Mickey’s.

The work has been assigned to a frequent Disney contractor, the Jon Richards Company.
While the latest permit does not provide any additional information about the Sir Mickey’s project, the refurbishment may be related to the new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience that will debut in Fantasyland next month, which will include the integration of the Fairy Godmother.

For now, however, that is just speculation.
We will have to wait and see what Disney has in store for Sir Mickey’s.
