Disney and WEBTOON Entertainment Are Partnering on a New Digital Comic Platform
The Walt Disney Company and WEBTOON are setting out on a new joint partnership that could change the digital comic landscape.
Yesterday, the two partners announced that they would be developing a new digital comics platform that will feature comic books from across Disney’s portfolio, including Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studios.

For the first time ever, more than 35,000 of Disney’s comics will be available on a single platform, simplifying things dramatically for fans.
“With a new platform that will combine our product and technical expertise with Disney’s full comic catalog, we’re giving new and longtime fans all over the world a new way to discover these legendary characters and stories,” said Junkoo Kim, Founder and CEO, WEBTOON Entertainment.

The New Service Will Build Upon Marvel Unlimited
As part of the Disney+ Perks program, Disney+ subscribers will also have access to curated comic content at no additional charge.

The new platform will be an expansion of Marvel Unlimited, which is Marvel’s current digital comics subscription service.

According to a press release, the new digital comic platform will be built and operated by WEBTOON Entertainment. In addition to Disney’s content, the platform will host a selection of WEBTOON Originals.
Disney Aquires Equity in WEBTOON
Finally, as part of the new deal, Disney is acquiring a 2% equity in WEBTOON Entertainment.
