The Disney Abu Dhabi Castle Will Be the First to Incorporate Water in Its Design
While Disney’s announcement that they were building a new park in Abu Dhabi seemingly came out of left field earlier this year, Bob Iger and his team had actually been exploring the idea of creating a new park in the Middle East since 2017 or 2018.
Abu Dhabi was chosen due to the capital’s location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Unlike most Disney Parks, the new Abu Dhabi resort will not be owned and operated by Disney. Instead, Miral, an Abu Dhabi-based company specializing in the creation of immersive destinations and experiences, will provide the upfront capital to construct the resort and oversee its development and operation.

Needless to say, Disney Abu Dhabi will be a unique park.
The Park Will Feature a Unique Castle
While details about Disney’s next theme park have been largely kept under wraps, we now have an interesting piece of information about Abu Dhabi’s castle.

In the latest episode of We Call It Imagineering, which focused on Disney’s theme park castles, Imagineer Zach Riddley, who is spearheading the Disney Abu Dhabi project, revealed that the park’s castle will incorporate water.

“Abu Dhabi is a city on the water and so we’re really excited about being able to incorporate water for the first time in the design of one of our castles,” he teased.

Outside of the castle preview, Riddley also confirmed that the new park will be “based on our Magic Kingdom style of storytelling.”
While fans will have to wait a while to see Disney Abu Dhabi come to fruition, it sounds like Disney will explore a new and interesting direction with the park.
“We have shared artwork very early in terms of what we think the vision of this could be,” Ridley teased. “I think on that end, stay tuned.”
