Disney Theatrical Productions Is Currently Developing a ‘Zootopia’ Musical!
Just as Zootopia fans are preparing to reunite with Judy, Nick, and the rest of the franchise’s wild cast for Zootopia 2, Disney has dropped another bombshell!
According to a new report from Broadway World, Disney Theatrical Productions is developing a 90-minute musical version of the original Zootopia film.
According to an Equity audition notice, the musical will feature a book by Sara Wordsworth and music and lyrics by Jaheem Thoombs and Mate Martinez.
Connor Callaher, meanwhile, is attached to direct the stage adaptation with Ian Weinberger serving as music supervisor.
Auditions Will Be Held Later This Month
While details on the Zootopia stage production remain scarce, Equity Principal Auditions will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Ripley-Grier Studios in New York City. Casting is being overseen by C12 Casting.

Currently, Disney is auditioning for the following roles:
- Judy Hopps: (18-30) A bunny. Optimistic, determined, passionate. Type A and infatigable. She believes in the good in the world. Youthful pop sound with strong belt.
- Nick Wilde: (20-30) A fox. Street smart, savvy, sarcastic. His nonchalant and dispassionate exterior masks a heart of gold. Baritenor who grooves.
- Dawn Bellweather: (25-40) A mild-mannered sheep and the assistant mayor of Zootopia. Soft-spoken, meek and overlooked but there is more to her than meets the eye. Mezzo soprano / belter.
- Chief Bogo: (30-50) An ox and the police chief of Zootopia. Tough and set in his ways. Uninterested in changing his practices or beliefs.

An Exciting Time For ‘Zootopia’ Fans
As previously noted, news of the Zootopia musical comes just two months before Zootopia 2 hits theaters.
Additionally, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is preparing for the debut of Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
