D23 Shares Dark Design Inspiration and Villains Land Details!

You already know that Magic Kingdom is going to be the home of the NEW Villains land but we just learned even more about this spooky and sinister area.
Villains Land
Fans love their villains and are ready to see them come to life. Disney just shared a video message from Disney Legend and former animator Andreas Deja, who is serving as a consultant for the project.

Imagineers shared progress on Magic Kingdom’s upcoming villains-themed land, originally announced by Josh D’Amaro at D23 last year.

The new land will feature two major attractions, dining, and shopping.
Highlights
The design team drew from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ original character work to capture the right look and feel of these iconic characters.
To capture the important details, the Imagineers traveled to Paris and Barcelona to study Art Nouveau and Modernisme architecture.
They partnered with local professors and historians and were given an amazing look at the architecture that will inspire the design of the land.
Architectural Influence
Paris offered inspiration through its natural motifs, flowing designs, and “cursed” look of frozen nature, and Barcelona’s Modernisme style brought more surreal, unnerving, and otherworldly qualities.
Both cities’ use of rich colors, stained glass, and painted metals informed the jewel-tone palette, which is the foundation for the land.
The team even created a new term: “Conjured Architecture.” This word describes the blending of historical Art Nouveau elements with the fantastical worlds of Disney Villains. The result will create an immersive, wicked environment for guests, and we can’t wait to see the end result!
