Disney+ and Nordisk Film Reach New Exclusive Licensing Agreement
As Disney+ looks to expand its European footprint by partnering with local studios such as ZDF Studios and ITV, The Walt Disney Company has agreed to a multi-year deal that will make the streaming service the exclusive home of Nordisk Film’s Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish theatrical releases.
The new agreement, which takes effect in 2026, will ensure that the best local Nordic films find a home on Disney+.

“We know that high-quality local content is a priority for our Disney+ customers, and expanding our strategic relationship with Nordisk Film and Egmont enables us to offer an unparalleled slate of upcoming Nordic blockbusters exclusively to them,” Hans van Rijn, SVP and Country Manager, The Walt Disney Company Nordic & Baltic, said in a statement.

“For more than a century, Nordisk Film and the production partners they collaborate with have been frontrunners within filmmaking and creative excellence, and duly rewarded with stellar local and international recognition, including 12 Academy Award nominations and 2 Academy Award wins since 2000. Their slate for the coming years looks amazing, and we can’t wait to bring it to the Nordic audiences alongside live sports and the latest series and feature films from our own studios at no extra cost to a subscription.”
Disney+ Secures 90 Nordisk Feature Films
Over the course of the multi-year agreement, approximately 90 feature films will be added to Disney+. Next year, subscribers will have the opportunity to watch movies from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

The Finnish films will arrive on the streamer in 2027.
“Our mission is to bring the best Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish films to the widest audience possible in the Nordics. For that same reason, we are very excited about the future of this multi-year agreement with Disney+ and their strong commitment towards our upcoming local slate of films,” said Kenneth Wiberg, SVP, Nordisk Film and CEO, Nordisk Film Distribution.
