As a quick recap, the immersive role-playing hotel experience opened on March 1, 2022, allowing guests to step into the Star Wars universe like never before.
Although Galactic Starcruiser debuted to high expectations, it struggled to meet occupancy targets. While the theming received praise, the steep price tag and narrow audience drew widespread criticism.

Finally, on September 30, 2023, after just 19 months of operation, the hotel was shuttered.
Imagineering Is Moving In
Following the closure of the Galactic Starcruiser, fans began to speculate how Disney would reuse the building.

While many had hoped for a new experience or a dinner show, the answer turned out to be much simpler.
In January of this year, Disney revealed that the building would be converted into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.

While it remains unclear what modifications Disney will make to transform the Starcruiser into a workspace, it appears that the project is about to ramp up.
A New Permit Has Been Filed
Today, Disney filed a new Notice of Commencement for construction on the Starcruiser.

The new permit calls for general construction, assigning the task to Balfour Beatty Construction.
If that name sounds familiar, it should. Disney has previously contracted Balfour Beatty for the construction of Pandora – The World of Avatar, the expansion of Italy at EPCOT, and the upcoming transformation of DINOSAUR into Indiana Jones.

With Walt Disney Imagineering set to undertake numerous massive projects, including Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Piston Peak at Magic Kingdom, and Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom, it is the perfect time to add new facilities for the unit at Walt Disney World!
