The Beak and Barrel Preview

The Beak and Barrel is a new bar and lounge coming soon to Adventureland in Magic Kingdom! It’s themed to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and movies, and officially opens on August 29th.

This swashbuckling tavern is available to pirates of all ages, but if you’re 21 or older, you can indulge in some fun cocktails! There are also some small plates here.
Let’s head inside!
Inside The Pirate Tavern

Make sure you look around while you’re inside, there are touches from the ride and movies everywhere!
While you dine, you’ll get to experience some sing-alongs, storytelling, and enchanting surprises.

The Beak and Barrel was established by Captain Merry Goldwyn and is overseen by Rummy, her chatty parrot quartermaster. He keeps an eye on the place from his roost atop the bar!
Rummy retired from the seafaring life, but he is a dutiful crewman to Merry and ensures everything is in ship-shape while sharing tales of piracy and leading the bar in a toast or two! You might notice that he bears a close resemblance to the original Barker Bird that used to be at the front of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

The largest space inside The Beak and Barrel used to be a mess hall for Spanish soldiers and is now called “The Mess.” Long tables in the room let pirates gather to tell their tales.

There is an imposing anchor hanging high above the tables, covered in candles and dripping wax!

You will find a large bar on one side of the room that is cobbled together from salvaged portions of a cursed shipwreck. In the center, you will find the skull-shaped stern that holds a large collection of grogs and brew.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Enchanted Rum Bottle, which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews. Or, look for Rummy hobbling around the bar’s ledge and greeting patrons while keeping a close eye on the crew!

Moving on to the Captains’ Quarters, you can sample a taste of the finer life as this was once the living quarters of the Spanish Comandante. The fine artwork and drapes have not escaped the slashing blades or burn marks from pirates over the years, though!
You can even see the faded spots on the wall that are all that remain of the now plundered portraits.
Check out the five mini ships in bottles mounted above the fireplace! These are rumored to represents pirates from every corner of the world that banded together to defeat tyranny. These bottles are known to come alive and engage in a fearsome battle, so keep your eyes peeled!

Along the wall of the Captain’s Quarters are the Captains’ Booths, which are four grand booths with intricately carved wooden panels. Each tells stories about the exploits of notorious pirates!
Tucked further away in here is a private sitting room where pirates partake in their favorite games of skill and chance. You might see signs of past matches or a warning for anyone thinking of not playing by the rules.

You can also check out the Mapmaker’s Room! This room is filled with rolled up maps, pieces of parchment, spilled ink, and treasured secrets that belonged to a crazed pirate cartographer.
Pirates now gather around the worktable in the center of the room. On the wall is a large painted map of the known pirating world that includes many pirating secrets to be discovered.
The Media Preview
We arrived pretty early, and greenery still hid the main entrance!

Cast members in pirate-attire greeted us, and we got some quick pics of the outside signs and marquee.

We waited for our turn and were so excited to check out the new lounge. Some of the lounge is still being finished (like the Map Makers room).

We were able to wander through the new location and immerse ourselves in the pirate setting! There are standing room options and ample seating (first-come, first-served), even for reservations.

Cozy seats in the dining room and long tables create perfect pub vibes! Music, lighting, and fun added to the experience.
Cast members assist guests and are always in character, utilizing pirate slang, fun banter, and swashbuckling theming.

Standing is primarily in the bar and the “Map Makers Room.”

In true Disney theming, there is a legend associated with this room: years ago, a map maker went mad and barricaded himself inside the tavern.

When the building was expanded, a cannon was used to blow open the tavern, and you can still see the cannonball in the wall on the left.
The Pirate Ambiance
The details are stunning! We love the island-inspired artwork and the sword holding up the signage.

Pirate-themed decor lines the walls, and there are ride and movie references throughout the location. Everything from bottles to melted candles to ships and more adorn the rooms.
The candles create a moody and mysterious ambience—perfect.

Take a look at the intricate carvings in the booths. We sat in one dedicated to Captain Jack Sparrow.
Each booth has unique hand-carvings inspired by the captains in the movies.

Once we were inside, we were able to indulge in the delicious drinks and food.
What We Tried
We first tried the Island Provisions for $16. This was a small plate of Plantain Chips, Blue Corn Tortillas, and Toasted Flatbread served with Mango Chutney, Garlic Chimichurri, Spiced Guava, and Zesty Culantro Cream Dips.

The chimichurri is the standout. It’s very garlicky, but addictive… in a good way! There was a good mix of dips, providing plenty of flavor options, and the Guava is a sweet and fruity addition.
We also tried the Cursed Treasure, an indulgent blend of Coconut Milk and Cookie Crumbles topped with Vanilla Foam and Pirate’s Gold. It was a delicious non-alcoholic option described to us as “Mary’s version of cookies and milk.”
It reminded us of a chilled, coconutty “hot chocolate” with a sweet vanilla whipped cream topping. It’s really tasty and not overly sweet, considering it’s iced chocolate milk. The best part? It is garnished with a chocolate wafer-like cookie.

We then savored the Plunders Punch. This cocktail was a classic rum punch! It is well-flavored and sweet to balance the spiced rum.
It features Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Blackberry, Lime, and Vanilla served in a Souvenir Pirate Skull Mug for $46! (Note — the drink HAS to come with the souvenir cup and can’t be purchased without.)

We indulged in another delicious offering: the Treasure Trove, for $13.75. The Treasure Trove is an imaginative non-alcoholic beverage cloaked in flavor and mystery.
As you sip on this mix of ube, lemon, and coconut, you can also snack on some sweet treats! Our plate included a vanilla cake plank, chocolate cannonball, and golden caramel popcorn. This dessert and drink combo was delicious and fun!
