Tropical Storm Erin Officially Forms in the Atlantic
Hurricane season is approaching, and a confirmed tropical storm is fast approaching.
As of this morning, the National Hurricane Center has confirmed that a tropical storm has officially formed in the eastern Atlantic. The storm’s strength is alarming, but weather forecasters agree it’s too soon to know its direction.
Early Look

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami, the storm formed just west of the Cabo Verde islands off the western coast of Africa. Most models of the tropical storm are turning to the north before it reaches the Caribbean.
Because the system is moving into warm waters, it could intensify into a Category three hurricane by this weekend.

NOAA
Meteorologists have been closely monitoring this depression over the last few days as it loomed about 3000 miles away from Florida’s East Coast.
Erin is already the fifth named storm to develop during the Atlantic hurricane season, which started just over two months ago and runs through November, with its peak months being August, September, and October.

The National Weather Service initially predicted an above-average season for the Atlantic basin this year. There are expected to be between 13 and 18 named storms, with the potential for five to eight of them to become hurricanes.
