Rivers of America Drained in Magic Kingdom as Construction Continues on ‘Cars’-themed Land
We’re seeing a lot of big changes happening in the Disney Parks! DinoLand U.S.A. is being converted into the Tropical Americas in Animal Kingdom, Muppets Courtyard is changing into a Monsters, Inc.-themed land in Hollywood Studios, and Tom Sawyer Island is transforming into a Cars-themed land in Magic Kingdom.

We saw Tom Sawyer Island shut down earlier this summer, and today, we noticed significant progress taking place in the park.
Rivers of America Drained
The Rivers of America are being drained in Magic Kingdom!
This is the water that surrounds Tom Sawyer Island and was also home to the Liberty Square Riverboat.
We noticed that much of the water has been drained from the river…
…to the point where you can see the track for the old riverboat.
We’ve seen the river drained before when maintenance was being done, but this is more than just some maintenance!
The entire area is being transformed into Piston Peak National Park and themed to Pixar’s Cars.
As you can see in the concept art, there is still water around the new area, so we should see it return eventually! It will just be a while.
