The First ‘Freakier Friday’ Reviews Are In — Here is What Critics Are Saying

Twenty-two years after Disney’s Freaky Friday put a fresh spin on the classic body-swapping story, Anna and Tess Coleman will return to theaters tomorrow for Freakier Friday.

“Years after Tess ( Jamie Lee Curtis) and Anna ( Lindsay Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter,” the film’s synopsis reads.

Critics Are Praising the Film

As Disney prepares to return to theaters with another sequel to a beloved film, the early reviews for the film are in.

So far, Freakier Friday has received rave reviews from critics, with many praising Lohan and Curtis for their performances.

As of this writing, the film holds a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which, while lower than the original film, is still strong.

“‘Freakier Friday’ doesn’t reinvent the original’s story so much as it swaps the formula around for a frothy good time, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan easily slipping back into roles that fit them like mixed-and-matched gloves,” the critics’ consensus reads.

Heading into the weekend, it looks like Freakier Friday has a real chance at topping the box office. If the film can deliver a strong debut, word-of-mouth could propel it to an extended box office run.
