‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Adds Matt Smith To Its Cast
At Star Wars Celebration Japan earlier this year, Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: Starfighter was coming to theaters in 2027.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the film will be set six years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and will see Ryan Gosling make his highly anticipated debut in the galaxy far, far away.
“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling teased. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

The last time we checked in on the production of Starfighter, the film had added Mia Goth to the cast as an executive.
Now, Shawn Levy has added another big name to his cast.
Enter Matt Smith
According to a report from Deadline, House of the Dragon star Matt Smith has been cast as an antagonist in Starfighter.

The publication’s sources say that Smith will “play the next great villain in the Star Wars universe.”
What We Know About ‘Starfighter’
While details on Starfighter remain scarce, the film will reportedly see Gosling’s character protecting a young ally from evil pursuers.
Additionally, we know that the film will be a self-contained story.

“This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not sequel. It’s a new adventure. And it’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” Levy explained.
The film will hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
