This week, Disney changed some rules, The Ocho entertained some guests, and Schrodinger’s hoagie returned.

Hot Enough for Ya?

I feel like I have to mention this, as Walt Disney World doubled as an active volcano this week.
On July 27th, MickeyBlog warned you that Orlando was experiencing a heat advisory.
The following day, we again alerted you to a Central Florida advisory. And it kept going from there.
The past few days have been like the movie Groundhog Day if it were set on the surface of the sun.

I’m writing this at 1 a.m., and the local temperature at Walt Disney World is 79 degrees.
Friday was what passed for a chilly day with a high temperature of 93 degrees.

That’s stay inside weather right there, yet it was downright chilly compared to earlier in the week.
The good news is that we’re in August now, and the temperature should ostensibly start cooling.
The bad news is that the weather doesn’t always do what we expect. So, bring a personal fan just in case.
I recently posted some other advice for Disney vacations on hot days, and it’s proof of the obvious.
Disney worried about the wrong thing this summer. Universal Epic Universe was never the threat.
The real problem has been keeping guests comfortable. Thankfully, several of Disney’s announced projects are outdoor attractions.
Ocho Weekend
A few months ago, my wife and I were flipping through the channels – we’re olds who still have cable – and came across something.
It was the PFL, the Pillow Fight League, which I assure you is a real thing.

I jokingly mentioned it to my niece, she watched it, and she’s texting me a lot less now.
Was she right to ghost me over this? Judge for yourself. Here are some highlights:
Yeah, I don’t know what that was, either, but that’s the beauty of it.
Many moons ago, a movie called Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story made a random joke.
The sport allegedly aired on ESPN 8: The Ocho. Later, somebody at ESPN thought it’d be fun to do that for real.

And it is. Every once in a while, ESPN goes all-in on the premise, airing some ridiculous sports.
I’ve watched the 2020 Tetris world championship multiple times. I swear that’s a thing.
Well, this week, ESPN Wide World of Sports hosted ESPN 8: The Ocho events.
MickeyBlog dutifully covered this because that’s what we do. And it was a blast!

Well, you can’t say it’s not accurately named. And that was just day one! MickeyBlog was there for day two, too!
The Ocho Weekend is sooo much fun and definitely something you should add to your Disney World bucket list.
Oh, and yes! There is professional Dodgeball played during the event!

Maleficent Annual Passholder Magnet
We’ve got a lot more happening on the Orlando campus this week, starting with some good news.
Annual passholders know that Disney switched the Park Hopper rules in mid-July.

When Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away debuted, Disney restricted Park Hopping.
Annual passholders couldn’t enter Magic Kingdom after 2 p.m. unless they had a Park Pass for that date.
Yes, Park Passes are still a thing in rare instances and with annual passholders.
That’s why Good-to-Go days exist. Speaking of which, Disney just added more of those.
But the point is that the Disney Starlight changes were temporary. The company said as much, and it was true.
As of now, annual passholders can once again Park Hop at Magic Kingdom after 2 p.m. without a Park Pass.
Park officials merely wanted to prevent overcrowding during the first few days of the new parade.
By the way, Magic Kingdom has posted the parade schedule for the entire month of August.

In other park news, Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid is back up and running after a brief refurbishment.
Also, I’ll warn you that opening night of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has sold out.
If you plan to go this year, you really should be buying tickets RIGHT NOW, as they’re selling quickly.

Finally, if you’re visiting Disney World during the week of October 21st, please should be aware of this bit of news.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Imagineers aren’t messing around! They’ve already filed two permits!
One of them calls for the near-immediate demolition of the Animation Courtyard arch.
The Magic of Disney Animation reboot is apparently going to start immediately.
Switching coasts, Schrodinger’s Hoagie strikes again, as Earl of Sandwich isn’t closing.

Okay, it IS closing, just not as quickly as expected. Also, it will reopen later in a different location.
I swear that this makes sense if you’re Disney, and if you’re not, just laugh about it.
Otherwise, the Earl of Sandwich saga will drive you mad. When I first saw the report, I laughed like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
Elsewhere at Disneyland Resort, new sales of all Magic Keys have halted. You can still renew, though.

In other parts of the Disney empire, some fun stuff is happening. For instance, the turtles are back!
Yes, Ariel and Moana are currently slow-walking the sands of Disney’s Vero Beach Resort.

Disney even thoughtfully provided some fun facts about these majestic creatures.
The other big news this week comes from Disney Cruise Line, as the Disney Fantasy has arrived in Southampton, England.
This is the cruise ship’s first appearance in England. There’s also an excellent DCL deal right now.
We also just learned when the new cabanas will debut at Castaway Cay.
