WATCH: Imagineers Explain the Thought Behind the New Walt Disney World Railroad Narration
With the closure of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America and the upcoming construction of both Piston Peak and eventually the new Villains Land, the Magic Kingdom is going to be in a state of flux for the foreseeable future.
As the park prepares for the next chapter in its history, a significant portion of Disney World’s flagship park will be under construction.
These changes will not only alter the park’s landscape but will also necessitate a change to an opening-day attraction.
The Walt Disney World Railroad’s New Route
With work being done in and around Frontierland, the Walt Disney World Railroad is now operating in “shuttle mode” and only running back and forth between Main Street, U.S.A., and Storybook Circus.

Along with this change in operation, the attraction has also received a new temporary narration.
Imagineering’s Plan For the Temporary Narration
In a new video shared by Walt Disney Imagineering, Art Director Alex explained that the train going backwards allowed the unit to try something.
“Typically, we have narration, and in this case, it is more radio theater,” he explained.
Due to the spontaneity of the train ride, Imagineers designed the show to account for the unpredictability of the guest experience.
