Disney Live Entertainment: 70 Years of Storytelling and Innovation
For over 70 years, live entertainment has been at the heart of the Disney Parks experience.
From the first parade down Main Street, U.S.A., on July 17, 1955, to today’s dazzling nighttime spectaculars, Disney Live Entertainment (DLE) continues to evolve the art of storytelling with new technology and heartwarming connections.

The result? Unforgettable moments for guests around the world.
Partnering Teams
David Lightbody, SVP, Disney Live Entertainment, notes that DLE works closely with WDI and always has.
It’s a symbiotic relationship. Imagineers build these phenomenal places and invent amazing new technologies, and we bring those spaces to life and weave technology into our storytelling.

Bruce Vaughn, President and Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Imagineering, further praised the work of Lightbody’s team, which forges strong emotional connections for guests.
We have an exceptional group of show directors, producers, choreographers, and designers all over the world who really give it their all. They love Disney and they love to tell stories- and that passion shines through.
Pushing the Boundaries

This collaborative spirit has led to a new generation of live shows that is constantly pushing boundaries.
In 2025, DLE launched numerous productions around the world. These were recently highlighted in the latest episode of We Call it Imagineering:
-
“Friendtastic!” at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort features large LED screens, animation, and special effects and is the park’s biggest parade in history.
-
At Disneyland Paris, “Disney Tales of Magic” uses projection mapping, lighting, pyrotechnics, and drones.
-
And “Disney Starlight” at Walt Disney World lights up the night beginning July 20th with nods to classic electrical parades combined with the latest lighting technology.
More Coming Soon

Even more live productions are debuting this year, including “World of Color Happiness!”, “Paint the Night”, a new castle stage show at Hong Kong Disneyland, “Momentous: Party in the Night Sky”, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After,” and “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.”
Even Disney Cruise Line is bringing new productions aboard the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure ships this fall.
Technology and Storytelling

While DLE loves new technology, its focus remains on heartfelt storytelling and connecting with the audience. Lightbody shares that every park has different needs for different audiences, and all of those factors are taken into consideration when designing new entertainment.
The Future of DLE
As Disney Live Entertainment moves forward, its foundation remains clear. This organization is rooted in Disneyland’s early days and looks to the future with innovative techniques, heart, and technology. We can’t wait to see what’s in store with Disney Live Entertainment.
