Answering Your Strangest Disney Cruise Questions
Three months ago, I took my first Disney cruise, and it was a transformational experience.
After just a couple of days, I knew that I’d take dozens more cruises in my life.

My loved ones are fascinated by this pivot, as my wife and I had previously shown little interest in cruises.
Naturally, they’re asking me to explain how our opinions could have switched so quickly.

DCL
Today, I’ll explain why as I answer some of their strangest Disney cruise questions.
Aren’t You Bored?

I was asked this one a lot, which amused me. I’ve idly wondered how hyperactive people think I am.
To a larger point, I suspect there’s some projection here as people worry they’ll feel trapped at sea.

When you’ve never gone on a cruise before, you don’t really know what to expect and fear the worst.
Well, I can assure you that we never got bored. On the contrary, we needed more hours added to the day.

Specifically, we relished our time on Disney’s two private islands, yet we felt the opportunity cost.
Those were hours we didn’t spend onboard the cruise ship, which we missed dearly.

Don’t get me wrong. You will ADORE your island days, just as we did. It’s just that there’s sooo much to do on the ship.
We felt like we were in a (losing) race against time to do as much as possible before our cruise ended.

Not coincidentally, we’re researching longer cruises for future trips. That’s because we were the opposite of bored.
We didn’t have anywhere near enough time to do all the things we wanted during our cruise!
As proof, I recently posted a list of things we plan to try next time that we didn’t get a chance to do last time!
As a Picky Eater, Didn’t You Starve?

I actually got this one on Saturday while dining with family members.
At restaurants, I’m notorious about selecting VERY specific menu items and irritating the server with requests.

I’m allergic to onions, a condition held by less than one percent of the population. Yay, me!
Since even onion powder can be a trigger, you can understand how exacting I am with menus.

So, my family figured that a Disney cruise would be a nightmare for me. After all, I’m trapped in the middle of the ocean.
If I cannot find anything to eat while at sea, I’m good and truly in a major bind, right?

Disney Treasure
Well, the thing about that is Disney thinks of everything. And everyone. Food was never a problem for me.
On the contrary, I ate better on that cruise than I had in nearly a calendar year.

After a brief hospitalization in May 2024, my doctor cut my diet by a ridiculous amount as a precautionary measure.
I went from drinking about 80 ounces of Coke a day my entire life to zero, and my diet is down to less than 15 foods.

Thus, I understood why my family would have this question. But it proved to be the opposite.
A restaurant named Cabanas comprised most of the 11th floor of the Disney Dream, my ship.
Here’s a video of Cabanas on the Dream; it demonstrates how plentiful the dining options are.
Every food you see here is complimentary as part of your cruise vacation purchase.
I ate like royalty on this cruise, and the quality of the cuisine factors heavily into my plans to go back.
Can You Shower?

Okay, this one is specific to me, and it’s something I alluded to in a previous Q&A cruise article.
I’m a tall person, standing about 6’3” without shoes. Most cruise cabins fall in the range of 200 square feet.

Luckily, my wife is only 5’2”. If she were my height, navigating any hotel room would prove challenging.
Due to clever design decisions, our Disney Cruise Line cabin proved shockingly spacious.

Since our luggage slotted under the bed, we had more than enough space to maneuver around the room.
I won’t lie to you and say that it was spacious, as that would defeat the purpose of vacation cruise ships.

These businesses want to pack as many customers and amenities onto the ships as possible.
So, anyone spending all their time in their room is missing the point. I feel strongly about that.

Still, the question about the showers is a good one. At my height, I wasn’t entirely sure how it would go.
I’ve timestamped this video to show you what a Disney Dream shower looks like:
As you can see, it’s much more spacious than you’d expect. My head was definitely at the top of it, though.
I wasn’t bumping on the ceiling or anything, but the shower head and the crown of my head aligned.
Still, I had plenty of room to shower, which I did multiple times a day due to all the swimming in the pool and ocean.
Didn’t the Cruise Ship Nickel-and-Dime You?

I answered this question in detail a couple of weeks ago, but I’ll reiterate my response here.
We didn’t expect everything to be included on our Disney cruise, partially because we’re Parrotheads.

So, our primary source of familiarity with cruises involves Margaritaville at Sea.
Let’s just say that these cruises don’t have the best reputations, although I’m sure the music is great. Here’s a video:
When you board one of these cruises, you should think of yourself as a hostage on a cruise designed to promote alcoholism.

Disney Treasure
I’m only half-joking in that if you’re on the ship an hour and haven’t ordered a margarita, they may toss you into the ocean.
This was our baseline for cruise ship expectations, which worried us a bit. As I’ll discuss in a later section, I don’t drink.

Photo: Disney
No, I’m not a Friend of Bill W. I just never liked myself much when I drank. So, I don’t.
Similarly, I’m not a big coffee drinker, which I’d heard was another big upsell expense on cruises.

Irish Coffee
I dunno how spending a few dollars on a cup of coffee a couple of times a day adds up to a lot, but it didn’t apply to us anyway.
For our part, we were taken aback by the honesty of the phrase “all-inclusive” with regard to a Disney cruise.

Sure, we would have needed to pay for photo packages and internet, but that was about it.
Overall, we found that while Disney cruise price isn’t cheap, it’s substantially fairer than people think.

Disney is upfront about its costs, whereas other cruise companies hide their prices with fake promises about “all-inclusive” trips.
You Don’t Drink. What’s the Point?

I suspect some adult cruises are ruining people’s opinions of how cruises work.
Then again, as I confessed earlier, I’m apparently one of them, as I figured it’d be lots of drinking.

Photo: Disney
Now, don’t get me wrong. Disney cruises serve alcohol, and many guests drink copious amounts of it.
You’re on vacation, and absolutely nobody is judging you. Have a good time. You deserve it!

I’m more attacking this from the perspective of someone who doesn’t drink.
To a larger point, I’m not the target audience for Disney cruises in that I’m not a parent, either.

Disney Treasure
So, there are multiple reasons why I may not love taking a Disney cruise, yet, as I said at the top, we’re in love with them.
The combination of dining, entertainment, and relaxation has proven more intoxicating to us than any alcohol ever could.
