The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island Have Been Removed From the Disney World Map
After more than 50 years of entertaining, educating, and enthralling guests, the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island officially closed yesterday as Magic Kingdom prepares for the most significant transformation in park history.
For over five decades, the Rivers of America and the Liberty Square Riverboat have served as the heart of Walt Disney World’s flagship park, becoming synonymous with the kind of vacation experience that only Disney can provide.
Tom Sawyer Island, on the other hand, was a place to escape from the crowds and let your imagination run.

Yesterday, we said goodbye to both the iconic waterway and the beloved attraction.
Now, we are starting to look ahead.
Piston Peak Is on the Way
With the Rivers of America now officially closed, Disney will begin work on the creation of Piston Peak, the new Cars-themed area of Frontierland.

By the look of things, the company is wasting no time in getting started.
Magic Kingdom’s Map Update
Less than 24 hours after the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island closed, both points of interest have been removed from the Walt Disney World app.

A look at the updated map reveals that the area between the Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been digitally removed and replaced with a green expanse.

The updated map is now featured on both the Walt Disney World website and the My Disney Experience app.
For reference, here is what the map looked like yesterday.

As the development of Piston Peak continues over the next couple of years, this new green expanse will become the norm.

A new chapter in Magic Kingdom history is about to unfold before our eyes.
