After Conquering ‘Star Wars’ Streaming, Bryce Dallas Howard Wants to Direct a Feature Film
As Star Wars prepares to return to theaters next year with the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, the future of the galaxy far, far away has come into focus.
For the last six years, the Star Wars story has unfolded exclusively on streaming, where shows such as The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew have pushed the franchise in exciting new directions.
To bring these stories to life, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni turned to a stable of directors who not only understood the heart of Star Wars but were also able to put their own unique spin on the franchise.

The Mandalorian & Grogu
Chief among these has been Bryce Dallas Howard.
Howard’s ‘Star Wars’ Career
After joining her father on the set of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Bryce Dallas Howard got her own turn behind the camera when she began directing episodes of The Mandalorian, Chapter 4: Sanctuary, Chapter 11: The Heiress, and Chapter 22: Guns For Hire.

Additionally, she directed Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian for The Book of Boba Fett and the Skeleton Crew episode Zero Friends Again.
A Family Connection
In a recent interview with Today, Howard explained her lifelong attachment to Star Wars.

“I’m a huge fan of ‘Star Wars,’ and part of it is that I’ve had the incredible fortune of growing up in a family who, themselves, grew up in the entertainment industry,” she says. “And (‘Star Wars’ creator) George Lucas has been a mentor of my dad since he was 17 years old.”
Ron Howard, of course, starred in George Lucas’s American Graffiti. The two would form a friendship that has lasted decades.

“So, I really grew up with him and his family. I’m a fan of the material, but I think, above all, I’m very emotionally attached to the themes within ‘Star Wars’ and what it represents for George specifically,”
The Dream
If Howard gets her way, she will one day helm a Star Wars feature film.
“It’s been great getting to do episodes of ‘The Mandalorian.’ I’ve directed a couple of documentary features and a lot of short films, but I’d like to do a narrative feature. That’s kind of my next dream,” she continues.

With her longtime collaborators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni now guiding the Star Wars franchise forward, perhaps she will get her chance.
