Authorities Confirm Girl Who Fell from Disney Dream Was Not Held on Safety Rail
Tragedy was averted last week when a father and his five-year-old daughter were rescued after the child fell off the fourth deck of the Disney Dream.
The harrowing incident occurred on the Disney Dream, which was returning to Fort Lauderdale from a four-night excursion to the Bahamas.

According to reports, a young girl fell off the ship’s fourth deck, and her father quickly jumped in to save her. Eventually, he would tread water for over 10 minutes before rescue boats arrived.
Disney Rescued the Father and Daughter
Immediately after the girl fell, rescue personnel jumped into action, as the emergency “Mr. M.O.B” (man overboard) message rang out.
“The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water,” a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson told USA TODAY in a statement.

“We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests. This incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.”
Both father and daughter were ok.
The Daughter Was Not Being Held On or Over the Railing
As news of the incident spread, unconfirmed rumors began to circulate on social media that the little girl had been placed atop the guardrail to pose for a photo.

Those rumours have proven to be untrue.
According to a new report from CBS News Miami, the Broward Sheriff’s Office stated that “the little girl was not being held, as erroneously reported on some social media sites.”

The sheriff’s office also praised both Disney and the father.

“Based on media reports I have read, the Disney crew was well prepared. Clearly, their training and readiness paid off because they executed a successful ocean rescue. While there doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the circumstances that led up to the child falling overboard,” a spokesperson said.
“This family is so blessed. It’s great to be able to respond to good news rather than what could have been a tragic outcome. The incident involved a father and his 5-year-old daughter.”
