Child Rescued After Falling Overboard Off the Disney Dream
What was supposed to be a dream family vacation aboard the Disney Cruise Line turned into a nightmare today when a child fell overboard and into the sea.
The harrowing incident occurred on the Disney Dream, which was returning to Fort Lauderdale from a four-night excursion to the Bahamas.
According to passenger Kevin Furuta, a girl fell overboard from the vessel’s 4th deck, and her dad quickly jumped in after her.
At this time, it is unclear how the child fell overboard, as Deck 4 features a walking track and the ship has plexiglass safety barriers in place.
The Disney Cruise Line Team Jumped Into Action
Immediately after the girl fell, rescue personnel jumped into action, as the emergency Mr. M.O.B (man overboard) rang out.
“The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water,” a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson told USA TODAY in a statement.

“We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests. This incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.”
Witnesses Praised Disney’s Response
Eyewitness collaborated with Disney’s statement, noting that the Disney Cruise Line team quickly launched life preservers and deployed a rescue boat.

“We are on the Disney Dream at sea today and just witnessed a first on a cruise. A little girl fell overboard and her dad jumped overboard to try to save her. Man overboard calls went up immediately. The Disney crew went into action asap. Lots of praying folks on this ship! Both the little girl and dad were both successfully rescued,” passenger Dewayne Smith wrote on Facebook.
