Disney Has Dominated the Box Office This Year and the Best Is Yet to Come
As crazy as it sounds, we are roughly halfway through 2025.
With the year’s midpoint nearly upon us, Walt Disney Studios has released four major films to theaters, generating an impressive $1.1 billion.
Accounting for slightly less than 1/3 of the 2025 domestic box office, Disney has once again shown its importance to the movie industry. Perhaps most impressively, Disney has managed to lead all studios despite uneven results from its individual films.

Here is how we got here.
‘Captain America: Brave New World’
2025 started out with the release of Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World. Finally hitting theaters after a series of reshoots and delays, the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise got off to a hot start before its poor audience reviews finally caught up with it.

By the time the dust had settled, the film had grossed $200 million at domestic theaters and $214.6 million worldwide, for a total of $315.1 million.

Carrying a $180 million budget, Brave New World was not exactly a money printer for Disney. Still, the film likely broke even.
‘Snow White’
On the heels of Captain America: Brave New World came the long-awaited release of Snow White.

Like its box office predecessor, Snow White reportedly underwent a series of reshoots and delays before finally hitting theaters on March 21.
Unfortunately for Disney, the film could not overcome polarizing remarks made by star Rachel Zegler. After its time in theaters ended, Snow White grossed just $87.2 million domestically and $118.5 million internationally.

Disney reportedly lost over $100 million on the film.
‘Thunderbolts*’
After the wreckage of Snow White, Marvel returned to theaters with Thunderbolts*.

Unlike Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts* was lauded by critics and fans alike.
Unfortunately, the film was not able to leverage those reviews into box office glory. The movie grossed $188.8 million in domestic theaters and another $191.5 million overseas for a global cume of $380.3 million.

Marvel was likely hoping for better.
‘Lilo & Stitch
While Disney’s early slate of 2025 was characterized mainly as disappointing, Lilo & Stitch has been an undeniable blockbuster.

As of this writing, the film has grossed $371.7 million at domestic theaters and $492.3 million overseas, for a global total of $864 million.
By the time the dust settles, Lilo & Stitch will be the first billion-dollar film of 2025. When Disney needed a hit, Lilo & Stitch delivered.

A Look Ahead
After dominating the box office in the first half of 2025, Disney will soon really kick things into gear.
Over the final half of the year, the studio will release Elio, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Zootopia 2, and Avatar: Fire and Ash.

While Pixar’s Elio looks like it could be in trouble, the final three films are set up to be massive blockbusters. When all is said and done, it would not be surprising to see Disney close in on the $5 billion mark for the year.

Once again, the numbers show that there is no one like Disney.
