Disney Grants Starlight Theatre $150,000 For Musicals in Elementary Schools
Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri, has been awarded $150,000 by The Walt Disney Company to bring the Disney Musicals in Schools program to Kansas City elementary schools.
For those who don’t know, Starlight Theatre is an 8,000-seat Amphitheater. As the oldest and largest performing arts organization in Kansas City, Starlight not only brings Broadway musicals and popular concerts to Missouri but also offers community programs and educational experiences.

The new Disney grant will see participating elementary schools engage in a 17-week musical theatre residency taught by Starlight teaching artists trained by Disney Theatrical Group.
What the Program Will Include
During the 2025-2026 school year, Starlight will choose up to five public elementary schools to participate. Five additional schools will then be selected in 2026-2027.

“Through our collaboration with Disney, we are excited to help Kansas City schools create sustainable arts programs that inspire students and teachers, engage families and build stronger bonds between schools, neighborhoods and Starlight,” said Alex Jones, vice president of community engagement at Starlight.

The program will include professional development for school teachers, who will collaborate with Starlight teaching artists to produce, choreograph, and direct a 30-minute Disney KIDS musical.
The Big Performance
Each school will present one musical number on the Jeannette and Jerome Cohen Community Stage at Starlight Theatre before an audience of students, teachers, family, and community members.
