Danny Duran, Hollywood Publicist Who Helped Disney Transition From VHS to DVD, Has Passed Away
Danny Duran, a respected entertainment publicist who got his start with The Walt Disney Company, has passed away after a battle with cancer. He was 58.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Duran studied at California State University in Bakersfield and eventually earned a degree in Marketing.

After starting his career at The Walt Disney Company, Duran eventually founded ddPR, a boutique agency that promoted some of Hollywood’s biggest films.
Work With Disney
When ddPR launched in 2000, Duran took on Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment as a client, helping Disney manage the transition from VHS to DVD and later to Blu-ray.

The company would oversee the home-video release of numerous iconic titles, including The Lion King, Snow White, and The Little Mermaid.
He also managed publicity for Hollywood stars, including Jon Hamm and Beth Grant.

“Danny was a lovely, special friend for over 20 years. He helped me navigate the public relations in Hollywood in the most wonderfully kind and understated ways. I’ll always remember the sparkle in his eyes and his sweet smile,” Grant said.
“I’m so saddened by this loss, not just for me, but for our community. My husband. Michael Chieffo, joins me in gratitude for the happy memories we shared with Danny. We shall love him always.”
Duran’s Peers Remember Him
Following his passing, many of Duran’s peers in the public relations community paid tribute to his warmth and kindness.

Duran is survived by his husband, Blain; his sister, Daniella; brother-in-law Kevin; nieces Alanna and Isabelle; and parents Marie and Danny Sr.
