Earl of Sandwich Is Closing at Downtown Disney (Again)
We have a new update on the continuing saga of the Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney.
According to a new report from the OC Register, the Earl of Sandwich Tavern restaurant is permanently closing to make way for the new Porto’s Bakery.
As a quick recap, the original Downtown Disney Earl of Sandwich location closed in 2022 as part of the park’s transformation of its west end.
Subsequently, the restaurant moved into the former La Brea Bakery location after plans for Porto’s Bakery to move in were delayed. Additionally, a temporary pop-up location opened next to Star Wars Trading Post.
The Temporary Earl of Sandwich Is Closing
With Porto’s now ready to move into the former La Brea Bakery building, Earl of Sandwich is shutting down its operations. Additionally, the restaurant will lay off 167 employees between July 28 and August 10.

The layoffs were announced in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter sent to state officials last week.
A New Location Is Coming
Eventually, Earl of Sandwich will reopen in a new two-story building that is currently under construction.

The first floor will feature new lighting and an open interior, but it will otherwise look familiar to restaurant fans.
The new location’s second floor will hold an indoor-outdoor rooftop bar called Carnaby Tavern. This table-service eatery will pay homage to the 1960s British Invasion, with concert posters and other tributes lining the walls.

In the meantime, visitors to Downtown Disney will have to make do with the Earl of Sandwich trailer on the west side. The location will remain open while the permanent restaurant is constructed.
