‘Lilo & Stitch’ Has Already Surfed Past $600 Million at the Box Office
After Lilo & Stitch dominated the Memorial Day box office, breaking numerous records along the way, all eyes were on the film as it surfed into its second weekend.
Unlike previous Disney live-action remakes, Lilo & Stitch has been praised by critics and fans. With an “A” CinemaScore rating and strong scores on Rotten Tomatoes, it appeared that the film had everything it needed to have an extended box office run.

Now that the dust has settled on the movie’s second weekend, we can report that Lilo & Stitch has held strong and is looking like it will easily become Disney’s next $1 billion.
Exceeding Expectations
Heading into the weekend, the hope was that Lilo & Stitch would deliver $60 million at domestic theaters. That number would have given the film a 59% weekend-over-weekend drop, which was in line with other Disney live-action remakes.

Now, it looks like Lilo & Stitch will end its second weekend at $63 million, beating the already lofty projections.
While the domestic numbers were good, the international numbers were incredible.
Lilo & Stitch added another $113.1 million to its overseas haul this weekend, bringing its international cume to $330.7 million. The overseas drop was just 28%.

According to Deadline, the notable holds include France (0%), Germany (-12%), the UK (-28%), Australia (-29%), Brazil (-34%), Spain (-36%), Mexico (-40%), Korea (-44%), and Italy (-46%).
Other markets, including the Netherlands (+21%), Belgium (+13%), Saudi Arabia (+8%), Poland (+7%), Singapore (+3%), and Ukraine (+1%), actually saw gains.

Notably, the film has yet to open in Japan, where Stitch is immensely popular.
Where We Stand
As of this writing, Lilo & Stitch has grossed $330.7 million overseas and $280.1 million domestically for a global cume of $610.8 million. The film is currently showing no signs of slowing down.
