Meet the Cast Member Tasked With Ensuring Disney World’s Landscapes Are Immaculate All Year
While Walt Disney World is renowned for its immersive environments, amazing attractions, and world-class cuisine, part of the resort’s magic comes from the beauty of nature.
If you have ever visited The Most Magical Place on Earth, you know it features numerous areas where nature is seemingly allowed to run wild. In fact, I would argue that Disney World’s magic lies at the intersection of the resort’s highly cultivated environments and natural beauty.
To ensure that Walt Disney World’s landscaping remains up to standards, the resort employs arborists, who are tasked with caring for thousands of trees across the property.
In Celebration of National Military Appreciation Month, Disney relayed the story of Josh, a Marine Corps veteran and arborist at Walt Disney World.
Josh’s Journey
While serving in the military, Josh learned how to climb and rappel. Eventually, he would utilize those skills to become an arborist in South Carolina. After a family vacation at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, however, Josh decided that he wanted to work for Disney.

Over a year ago, his dream came true.
As an arborist at Disney World, Josh performs scheduled routine arboriculture maintenance. His job is to ensure that the onstage landscape looks perfect year-round.

“As a first-shift arborist, every day is different,” said Josh. “The day can vary from pruning and cleaning trees throughout our Disney Resort hotels, all four theme parks, two waterparks, and roadways.”
Making Magic and Memories
When asked what working at Disney World was like, Josh admitted that he had been given tasks he never could have imagined. One of these jobs has even been hauling the topiaries to EPCOT for the International Flower and Garden Festival.
“I enjoy coming in to work and doing different things every day,” he added.
