‘Lilo & Stitch’ and ‘Mission Impossible’ Team Up For a Historic Memorial Day Weekend
After a slow start to the year, the box office came roaring back this weekend with the twin releases of Lilo & Stitch and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning.
By the time the dust had settled on Memorial Day Weekend, the two films had earned a combined $260.5 million at domestic theaters. Of that total, Disney’s Lilo & Stitch earned $183 million, while Mission: Impossible earned $77.5 million.
When factoring in the other films, 2025 delivered the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend of all time, at $326.7 million. That number is up 221% from last year, which saw the release of the underwhelming Mad Max: Furiosa and Garfield.

A Look Ahead
The exciting news for movie theater owners and studios alike is that this year’s summer slate is jam-packed with potential blockbusters. Over the next couple of months, we will see the release of Karate Kid: Legends, How to Train Your Dragon, Elio, Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, Smufs, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Freakier Friday, and more!

For Disney, the summer will be especially important as Pixar, Marvel, and Walt Disney Studios all have major releases.
As we have seen in the past several years, the broader box office tends to follow Disney’s lead.
Hopefully, the studio can keep the Lilo & Stitch momentum going and deliver another record-breaking year in theaters.
