PHOTOS: The Navy Band Southwest Performed at Disneyland’s Flag Retreat Ceremony For Memorial Day
If you are a frequent Disneyland visitor, you undoubtedly know about the park’s nightly flag retreat ceremony.
Every day, guests, veterans, and Cast Members assemble on Main Street, U.S.A., for a special ceremony as Disneyland’s American flag is lowered for the night.
In a park full of traditions, the flag retreat stands out. Performed nightly since Disneyland opened in 1955, the ceremony traces its roots back to Walt Disney and his desire to celebrate America and its veterans.

As a veteran himself, Walt wanted Disneyland to be a place that honored both our country and its heroes. That legacy lives on today in the flag retreat ceremony.
A Special Memorial Day Flag Retreat
While every flag retreat at Disneyland is a uniquely moving experience, today’s ceremony was extra special.

To commemorate Memorial Day, the Navy Band Southwest was on hand, joining the Dapper Dans to play patriotic music as the observance was performed.

As you can see, guests circled the Town Square flagpole to see the ceremony and pay their respects to America’s heroes.

All in all, today’s ceremony was a beautiful tribute to America’s service members and veterans, and a poignant reminder of what Memorial Day is all about.

If you have never stopped to observe the flag retreat ceremony at Walt Disney World or Disneyland, make sure you do. It is a unique experience and a powerful way to recognize our country’s veterans.
