Alan Bergman Hints That a ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Sequel Could Be on the Way
After the historic debut of Lilo & Stitch at the box office this weekend, it is clear that Stitch-mania has swept the nation.
While it has long been evident that Stitch is one of Disney’s most popular characters, Disney has largely failed to utilize the beloved blue alien over the past decade.

With Lilo & Stitch now dominating theaters, there has clearly been pent-up demand for more Stitch content. The question now is what Disney will do next.
Alan Bergman Weighs In
Following the release of the original Lilo & Stitch, Disney quickly developed a series of direct-to-video sequels and an animated series.

The easy answer for Disney, then, would be to mine the broader Stitch universe for a live-action sequel. As early audience polling shows, there is already significant demand for another Stitch film.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman was asked about the possibility of a Stitch sequel. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the executive signaled that Disney was already considering the idea.

“It feels like it’s going to work very well, and it’s the kind of property that lends itself to more,” Bergman said.
A Sequel Now Seems All But Assured
Interestingly, Bergman’s comments came before Lilo & Stitch‘s historic debut weekend.

Now that the film has exceeded expectations, it would seem like a no-brainer for Disney to continue the franchise.
Whether the studio simply remakes Stitch! The Movie or finds a new way to introduce Angel, Leroy, and Sparky, it looks like the Stitch live-action universe is only beginning.
