WATCH: Kermit The Frog Gives a Moving Speech at the University of Maryland Commencement
Earlier this year, we brought you the exciting news that Kermit the Frog was set to give the 2025 commencement speech at the University of Maryland.
While the announcement may have sounded odd on face value, it actually made a lot of sense. For starters, this is not the first time Kermit has addressed students at Maryland.
Last year, the famous frog addressed a sold-out crowd as part of the College of Arts and Humanities Dean’s Lecture Series.

Perhaps more importantly, however, Kermit’s speech coincided with the 70th anniversary of The Muppets. As Jim Henson graduated from Maryland in 1960 with a degree in home economics, it was a fitting tribute to his legacy that Kermit addressed students this year.
On Friday, the day of Maryland’s commencement finally arrived.
Kermit’s Words of Wisdom
Wearing his cap and gown, Kermit took to the podium yesterday to share his wisdom with graduating students.

“Now, I realize that today is one of the most important days of your lives, so, I am honored to share some words of wisdom about three things that are close to my heart: Finding your people, taking the leap, and making connections,” he said during his introduction.
Keeping to these themes, Kermit paid tribute to Henson throughout the speech.
Kermit the Frog delivered an inspiring commencement address on Thursday at the University of Maryland to celebrate the Class of 2025.
“Life is better when we leap together,” Kermit said.

“But Jim believed that everyone had a place. Jim thought of that and he made us believe it. And so, my whole life I tried to appreciate people for exactly who they are. Uh, even if they are a pig who hogs the spotlight,” he continued.
A Musical Ending
Finally, Kermit wrapped things up with a note of encouragement and a performance of “Rainbow Connection.”
“Because life’s like a movie. Write your own ending. Keep believing. Keep pretending. You’ve all done just what you set out to do. And you’re just getting started!” he concluded.

All in all, the frog struck the perfect tone for the occasion. You can read his full speech at The Baltimore Sun.
