WATCH: Disney Animal Experts Inspect Purple Martins Before They Fly Back to Brazil
Every spring, Walt Disney World welcomes a very special guest. No, I am not talking about Spring Breakers, but flocks of purple martins who travel over 3,000 miles to nest in The Most Magical Place on Earth.
After making the journey from South America, the small songbirds find havens in the bird “hotels” that have been installed throughout Disney World.
These homes are part of a larger effort across Central Florida to provide bird nesting infrastructure.

The program aims to better understand the purple martins’ migration and nesting habits and reverse the decline in their Central Florida population.
The Birds Are Preparing to Head South
Today, Disney shared a behind-the-scenes look at the animal care specialists, who maintain the bird hotels and band and release the purple martins as they prepare for their trip back to the Brazilian Amazon.
