PHOTOS: Construction Continues at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Over the last couple of years, Frontierland has undergone a complete transformation. Between the arrival of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, as well as the closure of the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, the land looks radically different from what it was just three years ago.
In fact, Big Thunder Mountain is the only classic Frontierland attraction that has remained.

Earlier this year, however, the attraction closed for what is expected to be a year-long refurbishment.
The Refurbishment Has Rolled On
While Disney has not announced the specifics of the renovations, the hope has been that Magic Kingdom will finally receive the explosive finale featured in other versions of Big Thunder Mountain.
The last time we checked in, construction was taking place throughout the attraction.
Now, we are back with another update!
The Latest From Thunder Mountain
When visiting Frontierland today, we saw that work is continuing at Thunder Mountain.
The attraction’s Tumbleweed scene is still under construction, with scaffolding visible throughout the town.
Here is another look.
Elsewhere, we were able to spot crews working on the track replacement.
It looks like Thunder Mountain will sport a new track when the attraction reopens.
Finally, work has now begun on the rockwork throughout the ride.
As you can see, construction equipment is stationed all the way up the mountain.
We also spotted envelope testing, which is a safety measure used to ensure the coaster vehicles are free from obstructions and other potential hazards that could cause injury.

When Will the Attraction Reopen?
As of now, it is unclear when Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen at Magic Kingdom, though the hope is that the trains will be chugging along by early next year.
