PHOTOS: Shanghai Disneyland Breaks Ground on New Spider-Man Land
At last year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experience Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that a brand-new Spider-Man ride was coming to Shanghai Disneyland.
“After getting himself (and riders) into a tight spot, guests will follow Peter Park as he maneuvers at breakneck speeds to get out of trouble,” Disney teased.
Subsequently, it was clarified that Shanghai Disneyland would actually be receiving a new Spider-Man land, marking the first Marvel area in the park.

In addition to the new attraction (which has yet to be named), guests visiting Shanghai Disneyland will also have the opportunity to meet the web-slinger and his friends, shop, and dine in the new area.
A Major Milestone
While Disney has yet to announce when the Spider-Man land will open in Shanghai Disneyland, the project is moving along quickly.
Today, the resort took to Instagram and revealed that an official groundbreaking ceremony had occurred this morning!

“The brand-new Spider-Man-themed land has officially broken ground at Shanghai Disneyland this morning! This new land will be the ninth themed land at Shanghai Disneyland and third major expansion of the park since its opening,” Disney explained.
“Located adjacent to Zootopia, the brand-new land includes the park’s first major Marvel-themed attraction – a high-energy thrill coaster featuring Spider-Man. Guests will also be surrounded by Spider-Man and friends with shopping, food and beverages, and entertainment experiences.”
