John Boyega Weighs in on Daisy Ridley’s ‘Star Wars’ Return
When Daisy Ridley took the stage at Star Wars Celebration 2023 and revealed that she would return as Rey Skywalker in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s New Jedi Order, the future of the Star Wars franchise seemed clear.
At the time, Lucasfilm announced that three separate Star Wars films were in development, each set within a different period of galactic history. In addition to Chinoy’s film, which would be set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, James Mangold was set to take viewers back to the Dawn of the Jedi, and Dave Filoni would explore the era of the New Republic with his Heir to the Empire.

Unfortunately, over two years after the films were announced, they are seemingly no closer to hitting screens than when we began.
‘Dawn of the Jedi’s’ Troubled Production
Of the three projects, Ridley and Chinoy’s film seems to have had the most troubled production.
Screenwriters Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson, and Steven Knight have all cycled through the project over the last few years, and George Nolfi is reportedly writing a new screenplay.

Despite these setbacks, however, Ridley has remained committed to the project, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently confirmed that the film is still in production.
John Boyega Weighs In
Since the new Rey Skywalker film was announced, fans have held out hope that Ridley’s sequel trilogy co-stars Oscar Isaac and John Boyega will also return.

While both actors have been adamant that their time in a galaxy far, far away is over, Boyega has weighed in on the film.
During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Boyega revealed that he learned about Ridley’s return online. As a Star Wars fan, the actor is thrilled and excited.
“I miss Daisy, I haven’t seen Daisy face-to-face in a minute… I found out [about Daisy’s return] online. Being a genuine fan, I’m online, I watch reaction videos, I’m on the subscriber lists. I get the emails, as if I’m not in the films – you know, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ comes out… oh, does it?” Boyega said.
“It made sense to expand the franchise in that way. I’m just looking forward, first of all to see if it’s real, because we have had a few Star Wars announcements – you know, in development, they can’t quite get it done. I’m just hoping that Daisy gets that chance to shine in a franchise that’s finally hers, as a Jedi who’s fully qualified. I can’t wait to watch it. I really can’t. I’m happy for her.”
Based on Boyega’s comments, it does not sound like we will see Finn in the upcoming Star Wars film.
