We’re At Mama Melrose’s in Disney’s Hollywood Studios For the LAST Time!
In case you missed it, a lot is about to change at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

As of May 11th, Mama Melrose’s is closing for good, followed by Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo closing on June 8th.
These closures are all to make way for the new Monsters, Inc.-themed land coming to Hollywood Studios, which will feature a new roller coaster, themed dining, shopping, and even a theater show.

We’re at Mama Melrose’s today to say goodbye, so come along with us for the very last time.
Goodbye, Mama Melrose’s!
Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is a casual Italian restaurant tucked away in the backlot of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We had an 8:25PM reservation and headed over to enjoy our last meal at this spot.

The outside of Mama Melrose’s resembles a quaint Italian-American bistro, with colorful awnings and flags.

There are many small details to take in, like this silly rendering of the Mona Lisa.

The windows advertise fictional shops like Geiger’s Rare Books…

Mama Melrose’s is also located near Stage 1 Company Store, for which Disney recently submitted a demolition permit.

Inside the restaurant, you’ll find decor that maintains this aesthetic, with red booths, brick walls, vines, records, a Melrose Ave. sign, pictures of Mickey–this place has it all.

Final Night – Mama Melrose’s
Our Last Meal at Mama Melrose’s
Mama Melrose’s has been serving up Italian food (with a California twist) since 1991, a whopping 34 years of service. Over the years, we’ve visited many times, enjoying a frequently changing menu of mostly Italian-American fare.

Here’s one last look at the menu!

It was tough to decide what we’d eat for our last meal there, but we settled on starting with the Fried Mozzarella as our appetizer. They were delicious and started our meal off on the right foot. The cheese pulls were supreme (it’s all about the cheese pulls, folks), and the breading was nice and crunchy.

We got two entrees (as one does on a restaurant’s final night of service). We started with the Oven-baked Chicken alla Parmigiana, which is breaded chicken breast, marinara, and melted mozzarella over spaghetti. This is a great size (ours was split between two people), and the chicken was breaded beautifully. The sauce was…okay. It was enjoyable, but certainly not a standout dish.

Our other entree was Mama’s Pasta with Shrimp, which has three-cheese sauce, sautéed kale, cavatappi, roasted butternut squash, and wild mushrooms. Again, the dish was okay. Our main critique is that it could’ve used more sauce.

For dessert, we had to get the Cannoli, which is traditional whipped ricotta filling dipped in chocolate flakes. This was a great way to end our meal–heavy on the ricotta and a large portion size.

Overall, our last meal was enjoyable–and it wasn’t just because of the food! The restaurant was filled with the best energy–just check out the thunderous applause that ensued when the very last table was sat.

And if you know us, you know we shut this place down.

Bye, Mama Melrose’s!
At the end of the night, they locked the door and pulled the menu, figuratively and literally shutting the door on this chapter of Disney history.

Of course, everyone had to snap a picture at the end of the night.

This was such a bittersweet night–we’re so glad we were able to be in attendance. As one door closes, another opens, and we can’t wait to see what the future will hold (perhaps some screams?).
