Imagineering Draws Inspiration From Marc Davis As Work Continues on The Beak and Barrel
Earlier this week, Walt Disney World finally shared new details on the long-awaited Pirates of the Caribbean tavern coming to Magic Kingdom.
Officially called The Beak and Barrel, the new Adventureland lounge will be a place for swasbuckers, scalawags, and buccaneers to sit back and enjoy a drink surrounded by relics from across the Seven Seas.
In addition to unveiling the new tavern’s name, Disney revealed that the establishment will be divided up into two separate areas: The Mess, which is the largest and central space, and the Captains’ Quarters, where visiting pirates can enjoy a taste of the good life.
You can read our full rundown of The Beak and Barrel to explore more of the tavern’s details, including its backstory!
However, I want to draw your attention to some of the pirate artwork teased during The Beak and Barrel reveal.
Marc Davis Continues to Inspire
As Imagineering’s graphic designer Mackenzie explained, the new establishment was inspired by Marc Davis’s original Pirates of the Caribbean concept art and the popular film series.

In fact, Imagineering highlighted three specific pieces of Marc Davis’s concept art when showcasing The Beak and Barrel’s new logo.
The first image shows a skeletal pirate examining his treasure map in bed.

The second is a pirate treasure.

And finally, a pirate setting sail in his rowboat with loot in hand.

Today, Imagineering shared a closer look at all three images.

Are These Particular Sketches Important?
While it remains to be seen if these concept art pieces inspire specific elements in The Beak and Barrel, it is great to see that Marc Davis’s legacy continues to inspire the next generation of Imagineers.
